Opus 40, is tucked in the backwoods of Saugerties, not far from Woodstock. Our visits to the mountains would make us bypass it every time. But as chance would have it, we went. Sculptures here are not colorful, but they are certainly rich in imagination. When I saw the landscape at Opus 40, I was speechless.

The scenic vistas of this landscape art and the legacy of its creator, Harvey Fite, are being challenged by a persistent feud and a big fence. Since May, a chain link fence has surrounded a portion of the massive work of landscape art known as Opus 40 in upstate New York.
